Cracked Tooth? Chipped Smile? Crowns to the Rescue at Dr. K Dental!

Life throws curveballs, and sometimes those curveballs land right on your smile. A cracked tooth, a stubborn chip, or even lingering damage from an old injury can leave you feeling self-conscious and longing for the days of worry-free smiles. But fear not, Brooklyn and Manhattan friends, because Dr. K Dental has the solution: dental crowns!

Think of dental crowns as tiny, personalized suits of armor for your teeth. These custom-made caps are designed to fit snugly over a damaged tooth, restoring its strength, function, and, of course, its dazzling good looks. Whether you need to:

  • Repair a cracked or chipped tooth: No more wincing every time you bite down on something hard. Crowns can restore the structural integrity of your tooth, allowing you to chew comfortably and confidently.

  • Protect a tooth after a root canal: Root canals are heroes, but they can leave your tooth a little vulnerable. Crowns act as a protective shield, safeguarding your tooth from further damage and ensuring its long-term health.

  • Improve the appearance of a discolored or misshapen tooth: Sometimes, even with the best brushing and flossing, teeth can become discolored or misshapen. Crowns offer a beautiful solution, allowing you to achieve the smile you've always dreamed of.

  • Support a dental bridge: If you're missing a tooth, a dental bridge can be the answer. Crowns act as anchors for the bridge, keeping it stable and secure, so you can enjoy a complete smile once again.

Crowns are a versatile and long-lasting solution that can get your smile back to its winning ways.

How A Crown Session Works

1

Consultation

This is where we get to know each other and your smile! We'll chat about your concerns, carefully examine your teeth, and discuss your goals for your smile. Dr. K will then recommend the best type of crown material based on your specific needs and preferences. To ensure a perfect fit and long-lasting crown, we might take a few digital x-rays or even a 3D intra-oral scan!

2

Prep & Placement

Comfort is our priority! We'll gently numb the area to keep you relaxed throughout the procedure. Then, a small amount of tooth enamel will be removed to make space for the crown. To ensure your smile stays protected and functional in the meantime, we'll place a temporary crown while your custom crown is being crafted in the lab. Once it's ready, we'll ensure it fits perfectly, make any necessary adjustments for optimal comfort and bite, and finally, securely cement it in place.

3

Post-Treatment & Care

We'll provide you with detailed instructions on caring for your new crown, which is generally similar to your natural teeth. Brushing, flossing, and regular dental checkups are key to maintaining your crown's health and ensuring it lasts for many years to come.

  • Several signs might indicate you need a dental crown:

    • Cracked or chipped tooth: This can cause pain, sensitivity, and difficulty chewing.

    • Extensive decay: If a filling cannot restore enough tooth structure, a crown may be necessary.

    • Root canal treatment: A crown protects the weakened tooth after a root canal.

    • Discolored or misshapen tooth: Crowns can improve the aesthetics of your smile.

    • Loose or broken fillings: If a large filling is failing, a crown can provide a stronger restoration.

  • Compared to fillings: crowns offer increased durability, better aesthetics, and greater protection for a weakened tooth.

Compared to extraction: crowns preserve the natural tooth structure, allowing for natural chewing and bite function.

  • The entire process typically involves two appointments. The first appointment focuses on consultation and preparation, while the second appointment is for final crown placement. Each appointment usually takes about an hour, but this can vary depending on individual circumstances.

  • Absolutely! Crowns are custom-made to match the color and shape of your surrounding teeth, creating a natural and aesthetically pleasing look. They can address discoloration, chips, and misshapen teeth, boosting your confidence in your smile.

  • Following the procedure, you may experience mild sensitivity or discomfort, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication. It's crucial to follow your dentist's instructions for caring for the temporary crown until your permanent crown is placed. After the permanent crown placement, there might be some initial adjustment to the bite, but this usually resolves quickly.

  • Many dental insurance plans cover a portion of the cost of dental crowns, but coverage varies depending on your individual plan. Our team at Dr. K Dental can help you verify your specific coverage and maximize your insurance benefits.

  • In some cases, depending on the extent of damage and location of the tooth, alternative options to crowns might be available. These could include large fillings, dental bonding, or onlays/inlays. Dr. Kuznetsov will discuss all suitable options during your consultation to determine the best solution for your individual case.

  • Proper care is crucial for maximizing the lifespan of your dental crown. This includes brushing twice daily, flossing regularly, and attending regular dental checkups and cleanings. Additionally, avoid using your teeth for activities like chewing hard objects or opening packaging with your teeth.

  • Dr. K Dental offers various crown materials, including hypoallergenic options like zirconia, which can be suitable for individuals with allergies or sensitivities to specific materials like metal. During your consultation, we will discuss your medical history and any allergies you might have to determine the safest and most suitable crown material for you.
